Many of the Trofil products are designed in two colors – brighter and darker green tones are used equally. Sometimes brownish fibers are processed in the turf system too. Therefore the grass appears very natural.

Cork is used as natural filling. Therefore it is very expensive and rarely used. As an organic substance it can rot after a while and needs constant maintenance and restructuring.
DIN 18035-7 2014-10
The DIN standard includes additional specifications for artificial turf systems with filled and unfilled pile layers and does not contradict the European standard DIN EN 15330-1. One specification is e.g. the requirement for the entire construction of artificial turf fields, fillers, suitability tests and control examinations as well as requirements in regards to the quality assurance. The TROFIL GREEN ® 20/113 of Trofil does this justice and proves that the product is certified by a German accredited testing laboratory according to the DIN SPEC 18035-7:2014-10 of the German specification for sport fields part 7.

Which artificial turf product is the most suitable depends on the stress exposed on the turf. A trade fair booth requires a different stress type than a soccer field. It is especially crucial to ensure that the artificial turf is adjusted to the weather conditions and is maintained regularly to preserve its durability.
Elastic layer / Elastic base layer
There are three different intensities of elastic layers. Elastic layers consist of a combination of SBR rubber material and polyurethane binder at a height of 25mm and 30mm. It is called “elastic base layer” at 35mm thickness. The elastic base layer consists, in addition to the SBR rubber material and polyurethane binder, of mineral rock parts.
The certified artificial turf-fall protection system of Trofil was especially developed for playgrounds, kindergartens and school yards, to improve the safety in case of a fall. The fall protection consists of a foam-elastic layer completely covered with artificial turf, which is laid under e.g. climbing frames.
Fibrillated fibers consist of broad foil sections, which are partially cut into – resulting in a mesh structure.
The filling of an artificial turf system consists mainly of quartz sand and granulate. The quartz sand lies at the very bottom and serves as support. The granulate plays a significant role regarding the robustness and playing qualities.

Mobile artificial turf system
The system consists of different artificial turf rolls, whose reverse sides are laminated with shock pads if needed. The turf rolls are interlinked by means of Velcro and loop tapes. Even though the mobile artificial turf system is unfilled, the play behavior is absolutely comparable to the filled system. The field is available up to 22×44 m and can be set up within three hours. In case of a filling with rubber granulate and quartz sand, the height of the pile layer is set between 35 and 60 mm – and thus optimally suited for soccer fields. The type of the pile layer is determined by the type of subfloor and the field of application. The pile height of artificial turf is therefore set between 20 – 35 mm for garden and landscape design and between 10 – 35 mm for hockey, tennis and unfilled artificial turf systems.
The pile layer – consisting of synthetic fibers – builds the top layer. It was changed various times since the 70ies; especially the pile height has been raised.
PP fabric (Polypropylen)
Polypropylen is an odorless thermoplastic, which is also well tolerated by the skin. Therefore it is often processed in artificial turf. It provides different ways of processing and offers stiffness and hardness.
Quartz sand serves as a filling material for the filament of an artificial turf system. Only quartz sand without sharp edges can be used, to avoid ripping.
Old artificial turf fields can be reused after the demounting. The sand and rubber filling can be separated from the artificial turf and reutilized. The artificial turf material is also completely recyclable.
Granulates are used for the filling of artificial turf systems. There are two fundamental types of granulate. SBR granulate, which is mostly used and TBE granulate. The condition of the artificial turf is improved by the granulate and has a positive effect on the ball roll behavior. Also for the users artificial turf involves benefits: Abrasions or burn injuries are widely banished.
SBR stands for Styrol Butadien Kautschuk and is a granulate that is used for the filling of an artificial turf system. SBR is the mostly used type of granulate, especially regarding soccer fields. That is why we are often confronted with the black plastic material. SBR derives from the process of further utilization of car tires. In comparison to other types of granulate SBR is cost-effective, but qualitative.
With a thickness between 6 – 15 mm, the shock pads ensure that the artificial turf field is provided with the optimal range for impact absorption. They are in addition vertical and horizontal drainages and allow for a good isolation value.
Artificial turf produced by Trofil shows a unique condition: certain fibers consist of spiral-shaped yarn, which has a very strong uplifting behavior that lies established in the raw material’s characteristics. The fibers rotate automatically under solar radiation and turn back immediately to their upright posture in case of extreme stress, e.g. after a soccer session.

TPE is another granulate that is also used for filling an artificial turf system. It is in a grey color and appears to be rather artificial because of its uniform granulate pellets.
Tufting is a technology for the production of three-dimensional surfaces such as artificial turf systems or carpets. This process is worldwide the most frequently used and works like a sewing machine: the so called poly-yarn is integrated into the basic material of the artificial turf.
Unfilled artificial turf
The unfilled artificial turf is not dredged with granulate and quartz sand. The fibers are especially interlinked and reinforce each other consequently. The advantages of unfilled artificial turf are the low maintenance needed and its efficiency in all weather conditions. The product has not been as successful in Germany as it is in Switzerland.
A high-quality artificial turf is characterized by its UV stabilizers. There are crucial to avoid that UV rays penetrate the fiber. The material would become brittle and fade without this protection.
The water permeability is one of the many advantages of artificial turf compared to natural turf. The backside of the material provides small perforation holes that allow for the water to be dissipated into the base course layer.
Modern artificial turf systems surpass natural turf regarding its wear protection – even with a high intensity of usage, artificial turf hardly wears out und remains in its original look and playability.
